Vaux Swifts at Chapman School

The swifts are back in town.
I did the following sketch last year while watching them swirling down for their nightly rest (or an eternal rest as it were for one hapless swift that fell victim to the talons of a hawk perched upon the threshold).


















Later painted it up in the studio.
It's not my intention generally to show finished paintings on this blog. I have a website for that. But I don't often paint from sketches and I thought the comparison might be interesting.

Magic Portals

As a child I imagined and longed for a magic portal through which I could enter another world. Now that I'm an adult I know that magic portals exist only as a means for other worlds to enter ours.
