Mummy's head

Why all the morbid images?
Perhaps it's just that so many people have asked me (with such warm and hopeful light in their eyes) how the birth of my daughter would affect my art, that I can't resist a bit of sarcastic visual response.

Interesting paintings

If what makes a painting interesting is something that must be explained then there's not much point in painting it.

Cityscape

a piano

Started a very typical painting last week, of a road at night. Of course there's a fire in the middle of the road because I can't resist putting a fire in everything, still. At first I placed the single wooden chair in front of the fire as usual. But that seemed a bit tired so I changed it to an upright piano.

Much better.

A burial

from a photo in an old Smithsonian magazine.
The photo was far more eloquent than this sketch.

become an artist

To become an artist requires at first a modicum of talent followed by ever increasing amounts of stubbornness and vanity.

To become a successful artist requires something else as well. Probably a lot of glad-handing, but then what would I know about it?
